How To Choose A Niche

As it turns out, many new internet entrepreneurs don’t even know what a niche is, let alone that they need to find one. So let me summarize and review what a niche is. In short a niche is a focused target market. In essence, a high demand for a product or service. And in addition to that, a niche is the first thing you must determine in order to build a successful online business. So now on to how to choose a niche.

Believe it or not, the best way to find your niche is to engage in some introspection. Make yourself a list of questions designed to bring out all your knowledge and passions you have learned through school and work. Then rate your passions twice. That’s right twice.

Once for things others have told you that you should go into business in. Such as you should be a singer, or you should be a website designer and on and on and on. Then once you have rated all your skills and passions, rate them again based on your passion for that area. This is a very important step, because as it has been said, where passion leads you, with hard work income will follow.

Frankly, starting a business is hard work, and will take patience. Finding a niche you are passionate about will greatly increase your chance of success, because when the going gets tough, you’ll get going. Don’t forget to listen to your gut. Once you have chosen a niche, it’s time to see if it’s a viable one. The easiest way to check this, is to use search engines and research how many web pages there are for that niche. Try narrowing your niche down a little more, making it more focused.

You should ideally find a niche that comes up with under ten million web pages. This is an excellent place to start for a novice. It may seem like a large number, but when you consider that some things like, holidays will return almost two hundred million web pages, ten million isn’t that high.

If you’ve considered all your skills and passions, and still haven’t found your niche, don’t give up just yet. There are a number of niche finder products out there to help you. Now of course, you’ll need to do some research and check these out to know which one is the best option for you. There are people that have spent hundreds of dollars on different software, and if asked they would certainly tell you which one was the best for them. Don’t forget to check out forums to see what people have to say about a certain product.

Now consider what happens when a niche already has 30 million web pages. If you bring your focus in a little more to just a part of that market, now you’re talking a micro niche. This is a large opportunity. Simply find a micro niche where people are looking for a product or service, and find a product or provide a service to meet their need.
